Dear Supporters,
Currently same-sex couples cannot sponsor their partners for citizenship;
however, the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) would allow all American
citizens to offer this important family-building opportunity to their partners.
Until now same-sex couples have been separated because immigration does not
recognize their relationship, and they are forced to be apart. UAFA remedies
this injustice by encouraging family unification and strengthening the fabric
of the American family unit. The UAFA seeks to fulfill the promise of
family unification in the U.S. immigration system by extending immigration
eligibility to the foreign-born partners of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent
resident partners. UAFA will be introduced to Congress on February 13, 2009, so
act now as time is pressing!
