Transgender city manager lands in Lake Worth

Susan Stanton now has a city to lead.

Stanton, who was fired as Largo city manager after her plans to have a sex change operation became public, was hired this week as city manager of Lake Worth.

In 2007, Stanton was a finalist for the city manager job in Sarasota. City commissioners instead chose Robert Bartolotta.

Stanton nevertheless moved to Sarasota, which she described as the “first home for Susan.”

Lake Worth still has to negotiate an employment contract with Stanton. The starting annual salary ranges from $140,000 to $160,000.

Lake Worth, located in Palm Beach County, has a population of 37,000.

“I thought she has the right temperament for our city and and, truthfully, I learned a lot from her,” Lake Worth Vice Mayor Jo-Ann Golden told the Palm Beach Post.

Stanton, whose first name was Steve when he was a man, was fired by the Largo City Commission in early 2007 after working for the city for more than 16 years.
