Five years ago, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to strike down a Texas law that criminalized any two adults of the same gender for engaging in consensual sex. For many of us, it is difficult to believe that being gay or lesbian could be a crime, but until June 26, 2003, that was the law in many states. This is but one of the many battles that has been waged for the equal rights of the LGBT community.
SAVE is proud to have been one of the many organizations to file an amicus brief in support of Lambda Legal's historic work. We congratulate all the organizations that participated and are hopeful for the continued wisdom of the Supreme Court to honor the dignity and privacy of the individual.
