Stuart Milk, the
nephew of slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, is
scheduled to speak at a rally in Florida on Monday in
support of gay rights. The “Rally in
Tally,” to take place at the state capital of
Tallahassee, is being billed as the largest gay rights
gathering in the history of the Sunshine State.
The event aims to
highlight anti-discrimination and domestic partnership
bills introduced in the state legislature. The
measures come on the heels of Amendment 2, the ban on gay
marriage and equivalent unions, which voters passed
with 62 percent approval in November.
Despite the
success of Amendment 2, recent polls show that 77 percent of
Floridians support extending basic legal rights to
unmarried couples.
