SAVE Dade is Gearing UP!

While it may not be tourist season here in Miami-Dade, SAVE Dade is still busy.  In fact we've been hard at work in the planning stages for some very important upcoming events and campaigns.

SAVE Dade's ANNUAL HALLOWEEN BALL 10/31/2009

First up...while Halloween is still several months away, donatethe planning of SAVE Dade's Annual Halloween Ball is no small undertaking.  And this year promises to be one of the best ever.  We have already secured our location, and we couldn't be more thrilled that Halloween will fall on a Saturday this year.  It promises to be great event and a fun time for all involved.  Our first Halloween Planning Committee meeting will be this Thursday, July 9th at 7pm at our new offices located at 4500 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 340.  If you like fun special events, this is the opportunity for you.

SHARE YOUR STORY: LOBBYING OPPORTUNITIES

Next up...our Florida US Congressional Delegates will be coming home from their session in Washington DC and SAVE Dade is setting up meetings to pay them a visit.  There are some very key pieces of legislation up for vote when they get back and we are working very hard to have our voices heard.  In particular our representatives will be voting on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and a new Domestic Partner Benefits and Obligations Act.  We have already had our first Lobby 101 Training session and we will be hosting several more.  It's important that our legislators meet the LGBT community and their allies from their own unique districts.  So SAVE is looking for potential lobbyists from all over Miami-Dade.  In particular we need more volunteers from Congressional Districts 21 and 25.  Our next training date will be coming up later in July.  If you have ever wanted to personally tell your story to your legislator, now is the time, and this is your chance.

ANTI-DISCRIMINATION CAMPAIGN

Additionally several of our committees are busy gearing up to support a new statewide Anti-Discrimination Campaign.  Along with our usual Candidate Endorsement work, our Political Committee will be working to identify, recruit, train and engage new volunteers for a number of activities ranging from participating on our Endorsement Interview Panel to running a neighborhood canvass.  We are living in a politically volatile climate right now that is ripe for change and we need your help to make sure that the positive LGBT momentum continues in our favor.

DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP PROJECT

Supporting our political work is our Community Relations
Committee that seeks to advance our work towards equality through community projects that educate and train the public.  We have an ongoing Domestic Partnership Project that is educating Miami-Dade unmarried couples of the existence and benefits of the Miami-Dade Domestic Partner Ordinance and Registry.  We have been holding informal house parties providing a short presentation and facilitating couples to register on the spot.  We could use your help to build the Domestic Partnership Project Committee so that we can reach an even great number of couples or maybe you are one of those couples that need to register.

YOU GOTTA HAVE FAITH

And lastly our Community Relations Faith Based Sub-Committee is in the planning stages of a new initiative to reach out and engage the Faith Community.  This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a growing and often misrepresented part of our community.
