Dear Supporters,

Many of the very same anti-gay groups who helped pass the discriminatory Amendment 2 in our state have now targeted the City of Gainesville, forcing a referendum on a charter amendment that would strip away the City's civil rights protections for gay and transgender residents.

We have only seven weeks!

Gainesville's voters will decide this charter amendment on March 24, 2009, only seven weeks from now.  If it passes, it will make it legal to fire someone, deny someone housing, turn someone awayfrom a restaurant or hotel, or deny them a loan solely because they are gay or transgender.  But it doesn't stop there.  This charter amendment would forever bar the City of Gainesville from ever providing protections to LGBT people from discrimination.

The advocates of this amendment are using the usual fear tactics, spending thousands on television ads that show a sexual predator following a young girl into a public restroom.

Fight fear with truth by joining SAVE Dade

How can we fight back? This time, the answer is simple: turnout in the Gainesville election is expected to be between 12 and 16 thousand voters. With your help and the aid of other volunteers, we can talk to every voter and identify supporters who can be turned out to vote against this divisive and hateful amendment.

SAVE Dade is holding phone banks every Thursday evening to call Gainesville voters.   Over the past two weeks, SAVE Dade has already called about 3,000 of the target voters, and has identified many supporters and recruited numerous volunteers.

Your help is needed

Join SAVE Dade's phone banks and become part of this statewide effort.  We cannot stand by and allow basic rights to be taken away from LGBT people in Gainesville. Even worse, passage of this amendment would make it more difficult to pass any anti-discrimination legislation in the entire state of Florida.

We have only seven weeks to stop this hateful charter amendment. Call 305-751-7283 now to sign up for a phone bank. If you cannot contribute your time, help SAVE Dade continue this vitally important work by making a donation today.
