FUNDRAISING
Putting the "Fun" back in Fundraising
So much of
SAVE Dade’s success over the years in fighting LGBT discrimination could not
have been realized had it not been for both fundraising events and donors whose
contributions have kept our programming innovative and strong. There are a
variety of commitment levels and opportunities for volunteers to chose from.
- Phone Banks -- Once a
quarter, SAVE Dade hosts a phone bank operated by volunteers. The goal of
these events is to help raise funds for SAVE Dade by reaching out to the
family and friends of those who volunteer, asking for their support on the
important work we do. With an initiative tied to each phone bank, SAVE
Dade has raised up to $20,000 before from the great work of volunteers
during this event.
- Ambassadors – Those that are
already members of SAVE Dade but wish to volunteer may become Ambassadors.
Ambassadors create a top 10 list of friends who may eventually become
major givers. They help open the door and start conversations with people
SAVE Dade has yet to reach out to, and who may wish to become Guardians –
an inner circle of donors and stakeholders that donate from $1,200 to
$10,000 annually.
- Shop to Earn – For a low-level
and non-committal volunteer opportunity, Shop to Earn is ideal for those
who want to shop online while supporting equal rights. To begin, click on
the “Shop to Earn” logo on our website www.savedade.org. The portal takes
you to the main web page of all the major retailers, such as Best Buy,
Target, Wal-Mart, etc. So long as you’ve arrived there via our “Shop to
Earn” portal, a percentage of your purchase will go to SAVE Dade.
- Champions of Equality – With the
Champions of Equality Awards just around the corner, SAVE Dade needs
volunteers to join the Host Committee. Members of the committee are asked
to buy four tickets to the event for $75 each, and then go off to find
others to buy the tickets from them, absolving them of the responsibility.
These tickets sales are partly the reason why this event is SAVE Dade’s second
largest fundraising event of the year.
- Corporate Groups – Many businesses
have shown an interest in partnering with SAVE Dade in order to show their
good corporate citizenship to the community. Businesses are encouraged to
have their human resources or marketing committees set up a dialogue
between the two organizations. Corporations, especially here in
Miami-Dade, are usually very ahead of the curve when it comes to
pro-equality issues. Many companies understand the advantages of having a
diverse workforce, and SAVE Dade would be glad to extend a hand to companies and
businesses who have an existing diversity initiative, or would like help
in establishing their own.
