Florida Circuit Court Rules that State Ban on gay Adoption is Unconstitutional

Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman, who takes cases concerning child welfare, made her ruling today on the constitutionality of a state law that bans gay men and lesbians from adopting. Testimony was given from Oct. 1-6 over Frank Gill's petition to adopt two foster children, which have been in Frank's care since 2004. The ruling will be appealed to the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami and is likely to ultimately be decided by the Florida Supreme Court. The ACLU will be providing legal defense for Mr. Gill in what could become a protracted court battle; with a judgment that will set precedent and thus affect similar cases in the future. We at SAVE have just learned of this ruling, and we will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
