Community Coordinator |
Job Summary |
The Community Coordinator will work primarily on recruiting a large team of volunteers. SAVE DADE's goal is for its large volunteer team to become actively involved in helping accomplish the goals of the organization.
The Community Coordinator's job is to recruit and organize a team, or teams, of volunteers from the LGBT and allied community in the localities in which SAVE DADE is operating.
The field operation may engage in grassroots advocacy, person-to-person campaigning, further volunteer recruitment, and fundraising, depending on the current campaign or campaigns in which SAVE DADE is engaged. In order to engage in these activities at a scale in which they can have a meaningful impact, the primary focus of the Community Coordinator must be recruitment of volunteers and development of volunteer leaders. The Community Coordinator must also be able to engage in the campaign activities that include a volunteer's assistance. Ultimately, the Community Coordinator must maximize the effectiveness of the field operation by recruiting the largest number of volunteers possible and making each volunteer as effective as possible in accomplishing SAVE DADE's goals.
The heart of the job is volunteer recruitment, training, and development.
- Recruit a large team of volunteers through in-person volunteer recruitment, and phone banks
- Recruit and train a base of volunteers into organizational leaders
- Motivate and retain volunteers for continued service
- Mobilize 10-50 volunteers each week and up to hundreds for major events such as Election Day, lobbying day, etc.
- Work with executive director, board of directors, and committees to execute a field plan with emphasis on voter contact, phone banking, voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives, and all other forms of voter persuasion and identification

- Coaching. Volunteers who begin to take on leadership roles within the effort will need help developing their skills.
- Planning. A campaign which operates on a sufficient scale will require advance planning to assemble and build.
- Delegating and Supervising. A large effort cannot function with only one leader, so a successful candidate will allow others to lead but provide supervision which helps them succeed.
