Safeguarding American Values for Everyone (SAVE) advocates for equal rights for all people regardless of their sexual orientation, and educates the community about human rights with emphasis on issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Established in 1993, SAVE strives to accomplish this mission through education, grassroots organizing, community mobilization and advocacy. Starting with the landmark passage of Miami's Human Rights Ordinance in 1998 to recent enactments of domestic partner benefit policies, SAVE continues to lead the fight for LGBT equality in Miami-Dade County.
Job Summary
The Executive Director will:
Fundraising and Development
• Develop and implement fundraising plans including membership drive, phone banks, major gifts, and events with volunteer committees.
• Develop, plan and implement strategies to secure gift and grant funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations in support of SAVE, Inc. and the SAVE Foundation.
• Staff, steer and support various fundraising committees to support the implementation of fundraising plan and strategies.
• Provide stewardship and oversight of gifts and grants to maintain and/or renew continued funding.
• Develop reporting tools for new and renewable gifts.
• Personally raise $8,000 in one-on-one solicitations from potential donors each month.
• Oversee that all fundraising sources garner a cumulative average of $30,000 each month.
Administrative and Office Management
• Develop and implement the strategic plan of the organization including fundraising, political lobbying/endorsement, communications, and other mission-centered objectives.
• Prepare and oversee annual budget and report on the organization's financial health.
• Prepare and report annual and quarterly work plans of the staff and volunteer committees
.
• Oversee the staff including professional development, evaluation, performance reviews, regular staff meetings, as well as supervising and coaching day-to-day activities.
• Maintain compliance with state and federal reports including treasurer filings, annual reports, etc.
• Train staff and committee chairs to effectively execute their duties in order to fulfill the goals of the strategic plan.
• Effectively manage the Board of Directors development, compliance, board meetings, and annual board retreat.
• Assist in volunteer recruitment and retention efforts.
• Maintain high degree of confidentiality in all matters, as well as the personal and professional acumen of a public figure.
Political Lobbying/Endorsements and Community Liaison
• Develop and supervise the implementation of a political lobbying plan to include elections, political campaigns, lobbying, legislative initiatives, field activities, and candidate endorsements.
• Staff, steer and support the Grassroots Action and Endorsement Committees
• Staff, steer, and support the Political Action Committees created by the Board of Directors.
• Establish and develop relationships with elected officials, their staffs, and other community leaders.
• Represent SAVE in the community with focus on the cultivation of fundraising and political objectives; maintain frequent contact with prospects and donors, corporate executives, community leaders and individuals.
• Establish and develop strategic relationships with local, regional, and national LGBT&Q organizations.
• Manage relationships with political candidates seeking SAVE's endorsements.
Communications and Public Relations
• Develop and supervise the implementation of a communications plan including Action Alerts, robo-calls, monthly newsletters, and other supportive communication strategies.
• Develop key messages and prepare the Board of Directors, staff and other key stakeholders for consistent media messaging.
• Prepare and distribute timely press releases to members, and media.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with media outlets and reporters.
• Staff, steer and support a Communications Committee
• Scheduling interviews, and be the key contact for media relations.
